Just a few days before the start of IPL 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) They’ve found themselves brimming with enthusiasm – thanks to a stellar performance from their 21-year-old rising star, Angkrish Raghuvanshi.

In an intra-squad practice match at the Eden Gardens, Raghuvanshi scored a sensational unbeaten century which not only caught the attention of the team management but also sent a warning shot to rival franchises.
Batting at his preferred No. 3 position, Raghuvanshi showed a perfect blend of composure and aggression. His innings of 103* off just 55 balls was not spectacular, which included nine fours and five sky-high sixes. It was not just the statistics that impressed but also the way he constructed his innings.
Instead of going all out from the start, Raghuvanshi took her time to settle in, showing maturity beyond her years. He completed his half-century in 29 balls, taking his innings cautiously before changing gears. Once set, he unleashed a flurry of aggressive strokes, dominating the bowlers and taking complete control of the game.
The highlight of his innings came during a brutal over against Express paceman Umran Malik, where Raghuvanshi scored 23 runs. It was a defining moment – one that underlined his confidence and ability to overcome even the fastest bowlers in the competition.

Selection headache for KKR, young star jostling for spot
While Raghuvanshi’s innings has given great strength to KKR, it has also created a difficult situation for the team management. With a team full of experienced names and foreign stars, it will not be easy for the young batsmen to find a place in the playing eleven.
The No. 3 position, where Raghuvanshi looks most comfortable, is already a highly competitive spot. Players like Finn Allen, Tim Seifert, Cameron Green and even Sunil Narine provide multiple options at the top and middle order. If we add to this the presence of captain Ajinkya Rahane at the top, the puzzle of selection becomes even more complex.
However, Raghuvanshi’s willingness to adapt may work in her favour. He has previously expressed that he is willing to bat in any position for the team – a flexibility that could make him a valuable asset in different match situations.
This is a good problem for KKR. Their middle order struggled for consistency last season, and Raghuvanshi’s ability to hold an innings as well as accelerate when needed could be what the team has been lacking.
Strong performance from other players was also seen in the practice game. Rinku Singh continued his good form with a quickfire 45, while Seifert added valuable runs. In bowling, Karthik Tyagi impressed by taking three wickets, and Blessing Muzarabani also contributed – giving positive signs for the team’s balance.
KKR is preparing to start its campaign Mumbai Indians (MI) The main focus on March 29 will be on team selection. Whether Raghuvanshi makes it into the starting eleven or not, one thing is clear – he has made a statement that cannot be ignored.
