Emerging Indian spinner Sree Charani has been awarded the number one spot in the latest ICC Women’s T20I Bowler Rankings for her recent aggressive bowling in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup for the Indian cricket team.
So far, in just 3 appearances in the title race, the 21-year-old spinner, who made her debut for the national women’s cricket team almost a year ago, has taken 10 wickets. Due to these incredible bowling figures, the spinner has regained the top spot in the rankings, overtaking England spinner Lynsey Smith, who has slipped to third place.
Shri Charani becomes number 1 for the first time in his career
Sri Charani started her T20 World Cup journey with three wickets against arch-rivals Pakistan, followed by 4 wickets against Netherlands Women and three wickets against the formidable South Africa Women cricket team. Under Charani, India won against Pakistan and Netherlands but felt weak against South Africa.
The International Cricket Council wrote in an official statement on 23 June, “The 21-year-old had made his international debut just 12 months ago, but a second career four-wicket haul against the Netherlands in Leeds, followed by three more in the defeat to South Africa in Manchester, proved enough for Charney to take over the top ranking from Smith following the ICC’s latest update.”
There are other Indian bowlers also in the ranking of bowlers
According to the current ranking, Mr. Kahrani is at the first position with 753 points. England’s Charlie Dean, Lynsey Smith and Sophie Ecclestone are placed second, third and fourth with ratings of 733, 726 and 722 respectively. Another Indian spinner Deepti Sharma is in the top 10 with 708 points. After slipping three places, Deepti is now at eighth place.
There have also been some changes in the ranking of women T20I batsmen. There are three Indian batsmen in the first ten ranks in the batsmen’s list for women’s T20I cricket. Australian star keeper-batsman Beth Mooney tops the table with 782 ratings, while South Africa’s Laura Woldart is right behind her at second place with 781 points.
Smriti Mandhana remains strong at 5th positionth She is ranked with 749 points, and her teammate Shafali Verma is right next to her with 708 rating points. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur has moved one step ahead to be in tenth position with 653 rating points.
“Teammate Beth Mooney (up one place to second) is her nearest challenger, 47 rating points behind, while Shafali Verma (up one place to sixth), Harmanpreet Kaur (up one place to 10th), Sophie Devine (up one place to 11th), Prendergast (up four places to 13th) and Nigar Sultana Joti (up three places to 20th) are in the updated list for T20Is. Batsmen are among those to move forward,” the ICC mentioned in the official website.

In the rankings for women’s T20 all-rounders, Deepti Sharma is the only all-rounder from the Women in Blue to be in the top 10, at fourth position.thWith 364 points. West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews tops the rankings with 513 rating points.
