122m madness! Jos Buttler makes Guinness World Record for taking most catches ever

Kevin Pietersen has given the cricket world a chance to witness a surprising moment as, between the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 between India and Sri Lanka, England star Jos Buttler did something off the field which was never done before.

Jos Buttler took a catch never seen before

In fact, Jos Buttler created history by making the highest catch of a cricket ball till date, after being dropped from a drone flying 122 meters above the ground, he caught the ball very cleanly.

The challenge was not at all easy, as the ball was released from a great height via drone, testing the former England captain’s vision, timing, nerve and hand-eye coordination.

As the ball fell from the sky, Buttler remained calm, kept his eyes on it and completed the catch safely, which left Pietersen and his entire team, and now fans too, in awe, as it was something that even two of the greatest wicketkeepers, MS Dhoni and Adam Gilchrist, had not done.

Butler broke the world record, video went viral!

With this remarkable effort, the England wicketkeeper-batsman has overtaken the previous world record of 119.86 metres, which was set by Australian wicketkeeper Timothy Shannon J.B.Clan in Sydney in 2021. Shannon broke the record of 114 meters achieved in 2019.

Now, Buttler’s catch of 122 meters is a long one. This incredible effort is now awaiting official approval, but if confirmed, Buttler will be crowned the new Guinness World Record holder for the highest catch of a cricket ball ever taken.

However, Pietersen had already confirmed that Buttler had broken the world record for the highest catch of a cricket ball. The former England great shot the video and shared it on his YouTube channel titled “The Switch: Kevin Pietersen and for the love of cricket” on February 9.

Why is Buttler one of the best wicketkeepers?

That 122-metre catch was taken as a challenge, but it still showed how good Buttler is with his hands. Well, the England star has long been one of the best wicketkeeper-batsmen in the world.

In ODI cricket, Buttler has played 199 matches and taken 236 catches, while he has taken 87 catches in 148 T20I matches for England. Talking about Test cricket, the English player has shown excellent focus and patience and has taken 153 catches in only 73 matches.

Jos Buttler reached a big milestone during England’s first match of the T20 World Cup 2026 against Nepal at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 8 February.

Buttler’s knock of 26 runs in just 17 balls helped him surpass Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene to become the third-highest run-scorer in T20 World Cup history. Jayawardene had 1,016 runs in 31 T20 World Cup matches.

The Englishman made this record while playing his 36th T20 World Cup match. He now has 1,039 runs in the tournament at an average of 41.56 and a strike rate of 147.37.
